PDO Threads
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are a special medical grade thread that is thinner than hair and made of protein. These threads are placed under the skin. Depending on the type of PDO threads used a PDO thread treatment is designed to subtly lift the facial features to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while encouraging collagen production for more volume in the treated areas. PDO threads come in a variety of textures and lengths for customized treatments. Successful effects typically last from 1 to 2 years. Like other dissolvable dermal fillers and injectables, the threads used in the procedure will eventually be absorbed.
Lifting PDO Threads
A PDO thread lift uses threads with small barbs that subtly lift the facial skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in addition to encouraging collagen production. Typical areas treated include the forehead, eyebrows, jowls and jawline. These cost $125 a thread with treatments varying from 2 to 20 threads depending on treatment area.
Smoothing PDO Threads
A treatment with smooth PDO threads stimulates elastic collagen synthesis, but these threads do not contain the barbs to pull back skin. They are ideal for stimulating collagen and elastin production. In the months following insertion, the body starts to repair and heal the tissue surrounding the absorbable threads providing fullness and smoothness to the areas that have deflated or creased over time such as the lips or cheeks. Smoothing PDO threads are also used to treat the visual appearance of acne scars or other superficial scars. Desired results may take several treatments over time to fully resolve deeper scars. Treatments cost $15 a thread, requiring from 10 to 100 threads.
Smoothing threads can be placed along the vermilion boarder during a lip filler treatment to complete the full lip enhancement providing an extra “pop” to the new fuller lips for $50.
